Building Services Design Manager

Role & responsibilities:
Main purpose of a building services design manager
As Design Manager you will be responsible for proactively managing the designer employed to achieve engineering solutions that are high quality, safe, innovative, to programme and are commercially advantageous.
Main responsibilities
• Design management
• Managing the materials compliance record (MCR) process & materials approvals schedule for permanent works design
• Budget & programme responsibility for specific section of design
• Specific contract correspondence between main contractor & employer
• Specific contract correspondence between main contractor and the designers employed
• Reporting directly to the Design Director
• Responsible for managing the MEP consultants
• Understand and coordinate technical specifications, drawings, programs and produce reports
• Coordinating the internal workings of the Mechanical and Electrical elements of the project
• Responsible for assess actual progress
• Communicate and cooperate effectively with internal design team, consultants and other members to work as cohesive team
• Assist the commercial team with value engineering opportunities, variations and disputes
• Offering design input throughout the project
• Assist on occasion other team members with tender submissions and other general Pre-construction activities 

Technical experience, skills and attributes
• Degree or other similar qualifications in a construction related subject
• Understanding of designing in a fully 3D environment
• Understanding and experience of design assurance in mixed use developments
• Understanding and knowledge of design coordination MEPFC & Architectural elements
• Actively target opportunities to exceed customer expectations
• Identify challenges and determine strategies that overcome these to deliver a safe and cost effective solution that delivers the programme
• Evaluate success of completed work and propose improvements
• Challenge provided information and the principles behind it

Qualifications & Experience:

• A Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Building Services Engineering
• A minimum of 5 years' post-education experience, including major London high rise projects within the High End Residential
• Must have experiences of high rise building over 30 stories.
• A good understanding of Building Services, including design principles, construction techniques, commissioning and handover techniques
• Team Player
• Analytical and drive for improvement and innovation
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written
